December

  • In December 2009 PKF’s national hotel sample experienced a 2.2 point decrease in occupancy from December 2008 to 43.2%.
  • The December 2009 average daily room rate for hotels tracked by PKF decreased by 2.7% from December 2008 to $118.90.
  • Revenue per available room for PKF’s sample decreased by 7.4% to $51.30 in December 2009 compared with $55.38 in December 2008.

November

  • In November 2009, PKF’s national hotel sample experienced a 4.5 point decrease in occupancy from November 2008 to 54.2%.
  • The November 2009 average daily room rate for hotels tracked by PKF decreased by 3.3% from November 2008 to $119.16.
  • Revenue per available room for PKF’s sample decreased by 10.7% to $64.64 in November 2009 compared with $72.37 in November 2008.

October

  • In October 2009 PKF’s national hotel sample experienced a 5.4 point decrease in occupancy from October 2008 to 61.0%. 
  • The October 2009 average daily room rate for hotels tracked by PKF decreased by 4.4% from October 2008 to $123.54.
  • Revenue per available room for PKF’s sample decreased by 12.2% to $75.36 in October 2009 compared with $85.80 in October 2008.

 

September

  • In September 2009 PKF’s national hotel sample experienced a 4.1 point decrease in occupancy from September 2008 to 68.0%.
  • The September 2009 average daily room rate for hotels tracked by PKF decreased by 6.9% from September 2008 to $130.04.
  • Revenue per available room for PKF’s sample decreased by 12.1% to $88.39 in September 2009 compared with $100.59 in September 2008.

August

  • In August 2009 the PKF national hotel sample reported an occupancy level of 70.8%, a 5.8 point decrease from August 2008. 
  • The August 2009 average daily room rate for hotels tracked by PKF decreased by 5.6% from August 2008 to $130.22. 
  • Revenue per available room for PKF’s sample decreased by 12.7% to $92.14 in August 2009 compared with $105.55 in August 2008.

July

  • In July 2009 the PKF national hotel sample reported an occupancy level of 66.6%, a 4.3 point decrease from July 2008. 
  • The July 2009 average daily room rate for hotels tracked by PKF decreased by 6.6% from July 2008 to $129.34. 
  • Revenue per available room for PKF’s sample decreased by 12.3% to $86.09 in July 2009 compared with $98.14 in July 2008.

 

June

  • In June 2009, PKF's national hotel sample experienced a decrease of 8.2 occupancy points from June 2008 to 63.4%. Most provinces experienced decreases in occupancy with the exception of Newfoundland (up 4.2 points) and Yukon (up 0.4 points).
  • The June 2009 average daily room rate for hotels tracked by PKF fell by 8.8% from June 2008 to $128.82. The most significant provincial average daily room rate decrease was reported in Quebec (-15.8%), while Saskatchewan reported an increase of 6.6% in average daily room rate.
  • Revenue per available room for PKF's sample dropped by 19.2% to $81.61 in June 2009 compared with $100.99 in June 2008.

May

  • In May 2009, the PKF national hotel sample reported an occupancy level of 59.3%, an 8.0 point decrease from May 2008. Decreases in occupancy were reported in all provinces, with the exception of Prince Edward Island (up 6.0 points).
  • The May 2009 average daily room rate for hotels tracked by PKF decreased by 5.4% from May 2008 to $125.53.
  • Revenue per available room for PKF's sample decreased by 16.6% to $74.43 in May 2009 compared with $89.26 in May 2008.

April

  • In April 2009, the PKF national hotel sample reported an occupancy level of 55.3%, a 7.0 point decrease from April 2008. Decreases in occupancy were reported in most provinces, with the exception of Prince Edward Island (up 9.8 points) and Northwest Territories (up 1.3 points).
  • The April 2009 average daily room rate for hotels tracked by PKF decreased by 3.5% from April 2008 to $119.84.
  • Revenue per available room for PKF's sample decreased by 14.3% to $66.23 in April 2009 compared with $77.29 in April 2008.

 

March 2009

  • In March 2009, the PKF national hotel sample experienced a 3.9 point decrease in occupancy from March 2008 to 54.8%.
  • The March 2009 average daily room rate for hotels tracked by PKF decreased by 1.8% to $122.21 compared with $124.38 in March 2008.
  • Revenue per available room for PKF’s sample decreased by 8.3% to $67.03 in March 2009 compared with $73.13 in March 2008.

 

January / February 2009

    • In January 2009 the PKF national hotel sample achieved a 47.2% occupancy level, a 3.1 percentage point decrease from January 2008.  Provincial occupancy decreases were reported in most provinces, while increases were reported in Saskatchewan (up 2.2 points) and Newfoundland (up 2.0 points).  In February 2009, PKF’s national hotel sample reported a 55.5% occupancy level, a decrease of 4.2 percentage points from February 2008. 

    • In January 2009, the national average daily room rate for hotels tracked by PKF decreased by 0.1% from January 2008 to $121.69.  The national average daily room rate for February 2009 was $124.31, a decrease of 1.0% over February 2008.
    • Revenue per available room for PKF’s sample dropped by 6.3% to $57.45 in January 2009 while RevPAR decreased to $68.97 in February 2009, 7.9% lower than February 2008.
