NATIONALLY, hotels tracked by PKF Consulting experienced an increase of 0.9 points in occupancy for the first nine months of 2011 from the same period in 2010. The average daily room rate decreased by 1.0% to $127.82, which resulted in a Revenue Per Available Room (RevPAR) of $80.20, a 0.4% increase from 2010.
ATLANTIC CANADA RESULTS – Year to date results for the Atlantic provinces showed a decrease of 0.3 points in occupancy and a 0.8% increase in average daily room rate, which resulted in a 0.3% increase in RevPAR. For the first nine months of 2011, Prince Edward Island reported an increase of 3.4 occupancy points but a 4.8% decrease in average daily room rate over the same period in 2010. Newfoundland experienced a 4.6% increase in average daily room rate compared with the same period in 2010.
CENTRAL CANADA RESULTS - Year to date results for Central Canada showed hotels tracked by PKF reporting an increase of 0.8 points in occupancy over the same period in 2010. The average daily room rate for Central Canada grew by 0.5% to $125.86 over the same period in 2010. RevPAR in Central Canada rose by 1.9% to $78.64 over the same period in 2010. Ontario hotels reported an increase of 0.5 points in occupancy for the first nine months of 2011 as well as an increase of 0.3% in average daily room rates from $121.95 in 2010 to $122.29 in 2011.
WESTERN CANADA RESULTS– Overall occupancy in Western Canada properties showed an increase of 1.2 points for the first nine months of 2011. Hotel properties in Western Canada reported a decline of 3.1% in average daily room rate, which resulted in a 1.2% drop in RevPAR. Year to date results for British Columbia showed declines in occupancy, average daily rate and RevPAR over the same period in 2010. Whistler Resort Area reported a 2.6 point occupancy decrease, an 18% decline in average daily rate and a 21.4% decrease in RevPAR over the same period in 2010.
