NATIONALLY, hotels tracked by PKF Consulting Inc. experienced an increase of 1.7 points in occupancy for the first nine months of 2010 from the same period in 2009. The average daily room rate grew by 2.3% to $129.08, which resulted in a Revenue Per Available Room (RevPAR) of $79.93, a 5.2% increase from 2009.
ATLANTIC CANADA RESULTS – Year to date results for the Atlantic provinces showed an increase of 1.3 points in occupancy and a 0.2% drop in average daily room rate, which resulted in a 1.9% increase in RevPAR. For the first nine months of 2010, Newfoundland reported an increase of 2.6 occupancy points and an increase of 2.2% in average daily room rate compared with the same period in 2009. However, Prince Edward Island experienced a 2.5% decrease in average daily room rate over the same period in 2009.
CENTRAL CANADA RESULTS - Year to date results for Central Canada showed hotels tracked by PKF reporting an increase of 3.2 points in occupancy over the same period in 2009. The average daily room rate for Central Canada grew by 1.7% to $124.93 over the same period in 2009. RevPAR in Central Canada rose by 7.2% to $77.02 over the same period in 2009. Ontario hotels reported an increase of 3.2 points in occupancy for the first nine months of 2010 as well as an increase of 1.3% in average daily room rates from $120.17 in 2009 to $121.67 in 2010.
WESTERN CANADA RESULTS– Overall occupancy in Western Canada properties increased slightly by 0.1 points for the first nine months of 2010. Hotel properties in Western Canada reported growth of 3.3% in average daily room rate, which resulted in a 3.5% increase in RevPAR. The Yukon experienced an occupancy increase of 5.0 points over the same period in 2009. Year to date results showed that British Columbia experienced an increase of 7.9% in average daily room rate over the first nine months of 2010 from $132.44 in 2009 to $142.91 in 2010.
