December 2008
- In December 2008, PKF’s national hotel sample experienced a decrease of 2.2 occupancy points from December 2007 to 45.5%. Occupancy decreases were experienced in most provinces with the exception of Newfoundland (up 2.0 points) and Saskatchewan (up 1.8 points).
- The December 2008 average daily room rate for hotels tracked by PKF increased by 0.5% from December 2007 to $122.22. The most significant provincial average daily room rates increases were reported in Prince Edward Island (up 12.0%), Yukon (up 9.8%) and Saskatchewan (up 6.6%).
- Revenue per available room for PKF’s sample decreased by 4.2% to $55.65 in December 2008 compared with $58.09 in December 2007.
November 2008
- In November 2008, PKF’s national hotel sample experienced a 3.2 point decrease in occupancy from November 2007 to 59.1%. The most significant provincial decreases in occupancy were felt in Northwest Territories (down 9.5 points), Nova Scotia (down 6.3 points) and Alberta (excluding resorts) down 4.8 points.
- The November 2008 average daily room rate for hotels tracked by PKF increased by 2.5% from November 2007 to $122.96. The most significant provincial average daily room rate increases were experienced in, Northwest Territories (up 11.1%), and Saskatchewan (up 8.7%).
- Revenue per available room for PKF’s sample decreased by 2.8% to $72.61 in November 2008 compared with $74.70 in November 2007.
October 2008
- In October 2008 PKF’s national hotel sample experienced a 1.9 point decrease in occupancy from October 2007 to 66.7%. The most significant provincial occupancy increases occurred in the Yukon (up 9.0 points), Saskatchewan (up 6.3 points), Newfoundland (up 3.6 points) and Manitoba (up 2.7 points).
- The October 2008 average daily room rate for hotels tracked by PKF increased by 2.4% to $129.07 compared with $125.99 in October 2007. The most significant provincial average daily room rate increases were experienced in the Yukon (up 10.0%), Saskatchewan (up 7.1%), New Brunswick (up 5.2%) and Newfoundland (up 5.1%).
- Revenue per available room for PKF’s sample decreased by 0.4% to $86.06 in October 2008 compared with $86.45 in October 2007.
September 2008
- In September 2008, PKF’s national hotel sample experienced a 2.8 point decrease in occupancy from September 2007 to 72.3%. The most significant provincial occupancy increases occurred in the Yukon (up 7.0 points), Manitoba (up 5.2 points and Saskatchewan (up 2.5 points).
- The September 2008 average daily room rate for hotels tracked by PKF increased by 2.5% from September 2007 to $139.58. The most significant provincial average daily room rate increases were experienced in the Yukon (up 12.1%), Manitoba (up 11.5%), Saskatchewan (up 8.6%) and Alberta (excluding resorts) up 5.3%.
- Revenue per available room for PKF’s sample decreased by 1.3% to $100.93 in September 2008 compared with $102.29 in September 2007.
August 2008
- In August 2008, the PKF national hotel sample reported an occupancy level of 76.7%, a decrease of 0.4 points from August 2007. Occupancy increases occurred in Manitoba (up 2.7 points) and Prince Edward Island (up 2.5 points).
- The August 2008 average daily room rate for hotels tracked by PKF increased by 2.2% from August 2007 to $137.88. The most significant provincial average daily room rate increases were experienced in Saskatchewan (up 9.7%), Manitoba (up 6.7%), Nova Scotia (up 6.5%) and Quebec (up 5.9%).
- Revenue per available room for PKF’s sample increased by 1.6% to $105.79 in August 2008 compared with $104.14 in August 2007.
July 2008
- In July 2008, the PKF national hotel sample reported an occupancy level of 71.0%, a 2.3 point decrease from July 2007. Occupancy increases occurred in Manitoba (up 2.6 points) and Prince Edward Island (up 1.2 points).
- The July 2008 average daily room rate for hotels tracked by PKF increased by 1.3% from July 2007 to $138.07. The most significant provincial average daily room rate increases were experienced in Saskatchewan (up 9.1%), Northwest Territories (up 8.5%), and Manitoba (up 7.5%).
- Revenue per available room for PKF’s sample decreased by 1.9% to $98.07 in July 2008 compared with $99.96 in July 2007.
June 2008
- In June 2008, PKF’s national hotel sample achieved a 71.9% occupancy level, a decrease of 1.7 occupancy points from June 2007. Most provinces experienced decreases in occupancy, however slight increases were reported in Newfoundland (up 2.7 points), British Columbia (up 0.3 points) and Saskatchewan (up 0.1 points).
- The June 2008 average daily room rate for hotels tracked by PKF increased by 4.0% from June 2007 to $141.42. The most significant provincial average daily room rate increases occurred in Alberta (excluding resorts) up 9.4%, Yukon (up 8.8%) and Manitoba and New Brunswick (up 8.5%).
- Revenue per available room for PKF’s sample improved by 1.7% to $101.67 in June 2008 compared with $99.97 in June 2007.
May 2008
- In May 2008, the PKF national hotel sample reported an occupancy level of 67.6%, a 0.8 point decrease from May 2007. Occupancy increases occurred in the Yukon (up 6.9 points) Newfoundland (up 4.2 points) and Prince Edward Island (up 3.3 points).
- The May 2008 average daily room rate for hotels tracked by PKF increased by 4.3% from May 2007 to $132.63. The most significant provincial average daily room rate increases were experienced in Nova Scotia (up 11.5%), Saskatchewan (up 8.8%), Alberta (excluding Alberta Resorts) up 7.1% and British Columbia (up 6.4%).
- Revenue per available room for PKF's sample increased by 3.2% to $89.70 in May 2008 compared with $86.94 in May 2007.
April 2008
- In April 2008, the PKF national hotel sample reported an occupancy level of 62.5%, a 2.4 point increase from April 2007. The most significant provincial occupancy increases occurred in the Yukon (up 10.1 points), Manitoba (up 5.4 points) and Newfoundland (up 5.2 points).
- The April 2008 average daily room rate for hotels tracked by PKF increased by 5.4% from April 2007 to $124.67. The most significant provincial average daily room rate increases were experienced in Northwest Territories (up 12.7%), Alberta (excluding Alberta Resorts) up 11.6% and the Yukon (up 10.0%).
- Revenue per available room for PKF’s sample increased by 9.7% to $77.89 in April 2008 compared with $71.02 in April 2007.
March 2008

January / February 2008
- In January 2008 the PKF national hotel sample achieved a 50.2% occupancy level, a 0.5 percentage point increase from January 2007. The most significant provincial occupancy increases were reported in the Northwest Territories (up 7.2 points), Yukon (up 5.8 points), and Manitoba (up 4.9 points). In February 2008, PKF’s national hotel sample reported a 59.7% occupancy level, a decrease of 0.1 percentage points from February 2007.
- In January 2008, the national average daily room rate for hotels tracked by PKF increased by 5.1% from January 2007 to $122.10. The national average daily room rate for February 2008 was $125.10, an increase of 4.0% over February 2007.
- Revenue per available room for PKF’s sample rose by 6.2% to $61.31 in January 2008 while RevPAR increased to $74.66 in February 2008, 3.9% higher than February 2007.
