Year to Date Results For 2006

NATIONALLY, hotels tracked by PKF experienced an increase of 1.5 points in occupancy for the first nine months of 2006 from the same period in 2005.  The average daily room rate rose by 4.1% to $125.23, which resulted in a Revenue Per Available Room (RevPAR) of $83.34, a 6.5% increase from 2005.

ATLANTIC CANADA RESULTS – Year to date results for Atlantic provinces showed a slight increase of 0.1 points in occupancy and a 3.6% improvement in average daily room rate, which resulted in a 3.9% increase in RevPAR.  For the first nine months of 2006, Newfoundland experienced a decrease of 3.3 points in occupancy while Prince Edward Island and New Brunswick reported increases of 2.2 and 1.0 occupancy points respectively compared with figures from the same period in 2005.  Average daily room rates increased in all Atlantic provinces, with Prince Edward Island reporting the highest increase of 5.6% from 2005.

CENTRAL CANADA RESULTS - Year to date results for Central Canada showed hotels tracked by PKF reporting an increase of 0.9 points in occupancy over the same period in 2005.  The average daily room rate for Central Canada grew by 2.6% to $128.50 over 2005.  RevPAR in Central Canada increased by 4.0% to $83.53 over last year.  Ontario hotels reported a 1.0 point growth in occupancy for the first nine months of 2006 and average daily room rates increased in both Ontario and Quebec.

WESTERN CANADA RESULTS – Overall occupancy in Western Canada properties increased by 2.5 points for the first nine months of 2006.  Hotel properties in Western Canada reported a 6.2% increase in average daily room rate, which resulted in a 10.2% rise in RevPAR.  Western Canada provinces experienced increases in occupancy with the exception of Northwest Territories reporting a slight decease of 1.7 points in occupancy.  Year to date results showed that all Western Canada provinces reported increases in average daily room rate over the same period last year, with Alberta (excluding resorts) experiencing an increase of 9.1%.
