December 2006

  • In December 2006, PKF's national hotel sample experienced an increase of 0.5 percentage points in occupancy from December 2005 to 47.7%. The most significant provincial occupancy increases were reported in New Brunswick (up 4.4 points), Manitoba (up 3.7 points) and Alberta (excluding resorts) up 2.6 points.
  • The December 2006 average daily room rate for hotels tracked by PKF increased by 3.4% from December 2005 to $115.92.
  • Revenue per available room for PKF's sample rose by 4.4% to $55.24 in December 2006 compared with $52.89 in December 2005.

November 2006

  • In November 2006, PKF’s national hotel sample experienced a 0.9 point rise in occupancy from November 2005 to 61.9%.  Occupancy increases occurred in Manitoba (up 9.8 points), New Brunswick (up 4.3 points) and Alberta (excluding resorts) up 2.9 points.
  • The November 2006 average daily room rate for hotels tracked by PKF increased by 3.9% from November 2005 to $116.20.  The most significant provincial average daily room rate increases were experienced in Manitoba (18.4%), Alberta (excluding resorts) up 10.8% and Prince Edward Island (10.8%).
  • Revenue per available room for PKF’s sample increased by 5.4% to $71.95 in November 2006 compared with $68.28 in November 2005.

  • In October 2006, PKF’s national hotel sample achieved a 67.6% occupancy level, an increase of 1.1 occupancy points from October 2005.  The most significant provincial occupancy increases occurred in the Yukon (up 13.6 points), Manitoba (up 3.4 points) and British Columbia (up 3.3 points).
  • The October 2006 average daily room rate for hotels tracked by PKF increased by 3.3% from October 2005 to $121.45.  The most significant provincial average daily room rate increases occurred in Alberta (excluding resorts) up 9.8%, Northwest Territories (9.4%) and Saskatchewan (7.7%).
  • Revenue per available room for PKF’s sample increased by 5.0% to $82.05 in October 2006 compared with $78.17 in October 2005.

  • In September 2006, PKF’s national hotel sample experienced a 1.3 point rise in occupancy from September 2005 to 76.2%.  The most significant provincial occupancy increases occurred in Manitoba (up 9.1 points), Saskatchewan (up 6.3 points) and both Newfoundland and Prince Edward Island (up 5.7 points).
  • The September 2006 average daily room rate for hotels tracked by PKF increased by 3.2% from September 2005 to $132.07.  The most significant provincial average daily room rate increases were experienced in Northwest Territories (13.0%), Alberta (excluding resorts) up 10.7% and Saskatchewan (6.0%).
  • Revenue per available room for PKF’s sample increased by 5.1% to $100.68 in September 2006 compared with $95.84 in September 2005.

  • In August 2006, PKF’s national hotel sample achieved a 77.3% occupancy level, an increase of 2.1 occupancy points from August 2005.  The most significant provincial occupancy increases occurred in Newfoundland (up 11.1 points), Manitoba (up 6.3 points) and Yukon (up 5.2 points).
  • The August 2006 average daily room rate for hotels tracked by PKF increased by 4.3% from August 2005 to $134.34.  The most significant provincial average daily room rate increases occurred in Newfoundland (13.0%), Northwest Territories (11.5%) and Alberta (excluding resorts) up 8.6%.
  • Revenue per available room for PKF’s sample increased by 7.2% to $103.82 in August 2006 compared with $96.82 in August 2005.

  • In July 2006, PKF’s national hotel sample achieved a 72.8% occupancy level, a decrease of 2.2 occupancy points from July 2005.  The most significant provincial occupancy increases occurred in the Yukon (up 13.1 points), Northwest Territories (up 8.7 points) and British Columbia (up 2.3 points).
  • The July 2006 average daily room rate for hotels tracked by PKF increased by 2.5% from July 2005 to $134.15.  The most significant provincial average daily room rate increases occurred in Newfoundland (8.9%), Alberta (excluding resorts) up 8.3% and the Yukon (7.6%).
  • Revenue per available room for PKF’s sample dropped by 0.5% to $97.61 in July 2006 compared with $98.13 in July 2005.

  • In June 2006, PKF’s national hotel sample achieved a 72.7% occupancy level, an increase of 0.8 occupancy points from June 2005. The most significant provincial occupancy increases occurred in British Columbia (up 4.1 points), Saskatchewan (up 3.1 points) and Yukon (up 2.6 points).The
  • June 2006 average daily room rate for hotels tracked by PKF increased by 4.7% from June 2005 to $133.19. The most significant provincial average daily room rate increases occurred in Alberta (excluding resorts) up 13.0%, Prince Edward Island (9.7%) and British Columbia (9.6%).
  • Revenue per available room for PKF’s sample improved by 6.0% to $96.88 in June 2006 compared with $91.44 in June 2005.

  • In May 2006, the PKF national hotel sample experienced a 5.2 point increase in occupancy from May 2005 to 69.4%.  The most significant provincial occupancy increases occurred in Quebec (up 8.8 points), Manitoba (up 7.0 points), Alberta (excluding resorts) up 6.8 points.
  • The May 2006 average daily room rate for hotels tracked by PKF increased by 9.2% from May 2005 to $126.86.  The most significant provincial average daily room rate increases were experienced in Prince Edward Island (up 12.8%), Alberta (excluding Alberta Resorts) up 11.5%, British Columbia (up 10.5%).
  • Revenue per available room for PKF’s sample increased by 18.0% to $88.01 in May 2006 compared with $74.56 in May 2005.

  • In April 2006, the PKF national hotel sample experienced a 0.7 point decrease in occupancy from April 2005. The most significant provincial occupancy increases occurred in Alberta  (excluding resorts) up 4.1 points and Yukon (up 2.9 points).
  • The April 2006 average daily room rate for hotels tracked by PKF increased by 3.6% from April 2005 to $114.70.  The most significant provincial average daily room rate increases were experienced in Alberta (excluding Alberta Resorts) up 9.3%, Prince Edward Island (up 6.1%) and British Columbia (up 5.3%).
  • Revenue per available room for PKF’s sample increased by 2.4% to $69.85 in April 2006 compared with $68.18 in April 2005.

  • In March 2006, the PKF national hotel sample experienced a 4.0 point increase in occupancy from March 2005. The most significant provincial occupancy increases occurred in Saskatchewan (up 9.8 points), Alberta  (excluding resorts) up 8.2 points, and Nova Scotia (up 5.2 points).
  • The March 2006 average daily room rate for hotels tracked by PKF increased by 5.2% from March 2005 to $114.26.  The most significant provincial average daily room rate increases were experienced in Alberta (excluding Alberta Resorts) up 10.6%, and Saskatchewan (up 9.7%)
  • Revenue per available room for PKF’s sample increased by 12.5% to $70.59 in March 2006 compared with $62.75 in March 2005.

January / February 2006

  • In January 2006 the PKF national hotel sample achieved a 49.0% occupancy level, a 2.3 percentage point increase from January 2005.  The most significant provincial occupancy increases were reported in Alberta, excluding resorts (up 5.8 points), Saskatchewan (up 5.4 points) and British Columbia (up 3.5 points).  In February 2006, PKF’s national hotel sample reported a 59.4% occupancy level, an increase of 1.8 percentage points from February 2005.
  • In January 2006, the national average daily room rate for hotels tracked by PKF increased by 3.7% from January 2005 to $111.71.  The national average daily room rate for February 2006 was $116.08, an increase of 5.0% over February 2005.
  • Revenue per available room for PKF’s sample rose by 8.9% to $54.79 in January 2006 while RevPAR increased to $68.96 in February 2006, 8.3% higher than February 2005.
