December 2005

  • In December 2005, PKF’s national hotel sample experienced an increase of 2.8 percentage points in occupancy from December 2004 to 47.4%.  The most significant provincial occupancy increases were reported in Nova Scotia (up by 6.2 points), Alberta (excluding resorts) up 4.3 points and British Columbia (up 3.6 points).
  • The December 2005 average daily room rate for hotels tracked by PKF increased by 1.0% from December 2004 to $111.62.
  • Revenue per available room for PKF’s sample rose by 7.4% to $52.96 in December 2005 compared with $49.29 in December 2004.

November 2005

  • In November 2005, PKF’s national hotel sample experienced a 3.9 point rise in occupancy from November 2004 to 61.6%.  Occupancy increases occurred in Northwest Territories (up 12.4 points), Yukon (up 8.2 points), British Columbia (up 7.7 points), and Alberta (excluding resorts) up 7.6 points.
  • The November 2005 average daily room rate for hotels tracked by PKF increased by 4.0% from November 2004 to $112.37.  The most significant provincial average daily room rate increases were experienced in the Yukon (15.4%), British Columbia (10.4%) and Northwest Territories (7.4%).
  • Revenue per available room for PKF’s sample increased by 11.1% to $69.23 in November 2005 compared with $62.31 in November 2004.

  • In October 2005, PKF’s national hotel sample experienced a 2.0 point rise in occupancy from October 2004 to 66.8%. Occupancy increases occurred in Alberta (excluding resorts) up 4.7 points, Saskatchewan (up 4.4 points) and British Columbia (up 3.1 points).
  • The October 2005 average daily room rate for hotels tracked by PKF increased by 3.5% from October 2004 to $117.96. The most significant provincial average daily room rate increases were experienced in the Yukon (9.0%), Alberta, excluding resorts (6.2%) and British Columbia (5.9%).
  • Revenue per available room for PKF’s sample increased by 6.8% to $78.82 in October 2005 compared with $73.80 in October 2004.

  • In August 2005, PKF’s national hotel sample achieved a 75.2% occupancy level, an increase of 1.7 percentage points in occupancy from August 2004. Provincial occupancy increases occurred in the Yukon (up 11.3 points), Saskatchewan (up 11.2 points) and, Alberta (excluding resorts) up 4.9 points.
  • The August 2005 average daily room rate for hotels tracked by PKF rose by 2.0% from August 2004 to $129.08. The most significant provincial average daily room rate increases were experienced in Saskatchewan (10.8%), the Yukon (8.1%), Newfoundland (5.5%) and Prince Edward Island (4.7%).
  • Revenue per available room for PKF’s sample increased by 4.3% to $97.04 in August 2005 compared with $93.02 in August 2004.

  • In July 2005, PKF’s national hotel sample experienced an increase of 2.5 points in occupancy to 75.1% from July 2004. The most significant provincial occupancy increases were reported in Alberta (excluding resorts) up 7.8 points, Saskatchewan (4.6 points) and Quebec (3.5 points).
  • The July 2005 average daily room rate for hotels tracked by PKF rose by 2.6% from July 2004 to $130.65. Provincial average daily room rate increases were experienced in Northwest Territories (8.5%), Alberta (excluding resorts) 6.8% and Newfoundland (5.9%).
  • Revenue per available room for PKF’s sample increased by 6.1% to $98.12 in July 2005 compared with $92.52 in July 2004.

  • In June 2005, PKF’s national hotel sample experienced a 72.1% occupancy, an increase of 3.6 occupancy points from June 2004. The most significant provincial occupancy increases occurred in the Yukon (up 16.6 points), Northwest Territories (up 7.5 points), Alberta – excluding resorts (up 7.1 points) and Saskatchewan (up 6.7 points).
  • The June 2005 average daily room rate for hotels tracked by PKF increased by 3.9% from June 2004 to $128.27. The most significant provincial average daily room rate increases occurred in Newfoundland (8.3%), Ontario (5.8%) and Northwest Territories (5.2%).
  • Revenue per available room for PKF’s sample improved by 9.4% to $92.49 in June 2005 compared with $84.56 in June 2004.

  • In May 2005, PKF’s national hotel sample experienced a 64.6% occupancy, a 1.2 point occupancy increase from May 2004. The most significant provincial occupancy increases occurred in the Yukon (up 13.3 points), Saskatchewan (up 8.1 points), Northwest Territories (up 6.3 points) and British Columbia (up 4.0 points).
  • The May 2005 average daily room rate for hotels tracked by PKF increased by 1.3% from May 2004 to $116.94. The most significant provincial average daily room rate increases occurred in Newfoundland (9.4%), Saskatchewan (7.8%) and New Brunswick (5.0%).
  • Revenue per available room for PKF’s sample improved by 3.3% to $75.56 in May 2005 compared with $73.15 in May 2004.

April 2005

  • In April 2005, PKF’s national hotel sample experienced a 3.9 point increase in occupancy from April 2004. The most significant provincial occupancy increases occurred in Newfoundland (up 8.0 points), Quebec (up 5.6 points) and Manitoba (up 4.7 points).
  • The April 2005 average daily room rate for hotels tracked by PKF increased by 2.5% from April 2004 to $111.01. The most significant provincial average daily room rate increases were experienced in Newfoundland (7.1%), Quebec (5.3%) and Nova Scotia (4.4%).
  • Revenue per available room for PKF’s sample improved by 9.4% to $68.54 in April 2005 compared with $62.67 in April 2004.

  • In March 2005, PKF’s national hotel sample experienced a 0.8 point decrease in occupancy from March 2004. The most significant provincial occupancy increases occurred in Northwest Territories (up 7.4 points), the Yukon (up 6.4 points) and Alberta (excluding Alberta Resorts) up 2.0 points.
  • The March 2005 average daily room rate for hotels tracked by PKF increased by 1.1% from March 2004 to $109.11. The most significant provincial average daily room rate increases were experienced in Newfoundland (6.0%), the Yukon (5.7%) and Alberta (excluding Alberta Resorts) up 3.5%.
  • Revenue per available room for PKF’s sample decreased by 0.3% to $63.19 in March 2005 compared with $63.39 in March 2004.

January / February 2005

  • In January 2005 the PKF national hotel sample achieved a 46.9% occupancy level, a 0.6 percentage point increase from January 2004. The most significant provincial occupancy increases were reported in the Yukon (4.5 points), Saskatchewan (up 2.9 points), New Brunswick (up 2.6 points), Alberta (excluding Alberta Resorts) up 2.3 points, and Manitoba (up 2.2 points). In February 2005, PKF’s national hotel sample reported a 58.0% occupancy level, an increase of 2.6 percentage points from February 2004.
  • In January 2005, the national average daily room rate for hotels tracked by PKF increased by 1.5% from January 2004 to $108.07. The national average daily room rate for February 2005 was $111.18, an increase of 1.6% over February 2004.
  • Revenue per available room for PKF’s sample rose by 2.7% to $50.63 in January 2005 while RevPAR increased to $64.51 in February 2005, 6.4% higher than February 2004.
