December 2004

  • In December 2004, PKF’s national hotel sample experienced an increase of 1.2 percentage points in occupancy from December 2003. Most provinces reported increases in occupancy, in particular, Manitoba (up by 3.6 points), British Columbia (up by 2.7 points), and Alberta (excluding resorts) up 2.0 points.
  • The December 2004 average daily room rate for hotels tracked by PKF increased by 3.4% from December 2003 to $110.59.
  • Revenue per available room for PKF’s sample rose 6.3% to $49.76 in December 2004 compared with $46.80 in December 2003.

November 2004

  • In November 2004, PKF’s national hotel sample experienced an increase of 1.9 percentage points in occupancy from November 2003. Of note, provincial occupancy increases were reported in Manitoba (up by 4.6 points), Alberta (excluding resorts) up 4.5 points, and the Yukon (up 4.0 points).
  • The November 2004 average daily room rate for hotels tracked by PKF increased by 3.5% from November 2003 to $108.64.
  • Revenue per available room for PKF’s sample rose 7.0% to $63.06 in November 2004 compared with $58.94 in November 2003.

October 2004

  • In October 2004, PKF’s national hotel sample experienced a 1.3 point rise in occupancy from October 2003. Occupancy increases were highest amongst the Yukon (up 4.0 points), Alberta – excluding Alberta Resorts (up 3.5 points) and Prince Edward Island (up 3.0 points).
  • The October 2004 average daily room rate for hotels tracked by PKF increased by 2.5% from October 2003 to $114.37. The most significant provincial average daily room rate increases were experienced in Ontario (4.5%), Alberta – excluding Alberta Resorts (4.3%) and New Brunswick (2.3%).
  • Revenue per available room for PKF’s sample increased by 4.5% to $74.42 in October 2004 compared with $71.19 in October 2003.

Spetember 2004

  • In September 2004, PKF’s national hotel sample experienced a 5.1 point rise in occupancy from September 2003. The most significant provincial occupancy increases occurred in Quebec (up 7.1 points), Ontario (up 6.2 points) and British Columbia (up 5.5 points).
  • The September 2004 average daily room rate for hotels tracked by PKF increased by 3.9% from September 2003 to $123.95. The most significant provincial average daily room rate increases were experienced in the Yukon (8.8%), Ontario (5.9%) and Prince Edward Island (5.7%).
  • Revenue per available room for PKF’s sample increased by 11.9% to $89.64 in September 2004 compared with $80.12 in September 2003.

  • In August 2004, the PKF national hotel sample experienced an increase of 1.3 points in occupancy to 73.7% from August 2003. Provincial occupancy increases were reported in Ontario (4.2 points), Quebec (2.4 points) and Alberta – excluding Alberta Resorts (1.3 points).
  • The August 2004 average daily room rate for hotels tracked by PKF rose by 4.4% from August 2003 to $126.71. Provincial average daily room rate increases were experienced in Ontario (7.8%), the Yukon (6.6%) and Alberta – excluding Alberta Resorts (3.4%).
  • Revenue per available room for PKF’s sample increased by 6.2% to $93.33 in August 2004 compared with $87.86 in August 2003.

  • In July 2004, PKF’s national hotel sample experienced an increase of 6.4 points in occupancy to 72.7% from July 2003. The most significant provincial occupancy increases were reported in Ontario (9.4 points), Quebec (7.4 points) and British Columbia (6.1 points).
  • The July 2004 average daily room rate for hotels tracked by PKF rose by 5.8% from July 2003 to $127.29. Provincial average daily room rate increases were experienced in Ontario (9.8%), the Yukon (7.0%) and Nova Scotia (5.8%).
  • Revenue per available room for PKF’s sample increased by 16.0% to $92.56 in July 2004 compared with $79.81 in July 2003.

  • In June 2004, PKF’s national hotel sample experienced an increase of 5.7 points in occupancy from June 2003. The most significant provincial occupancy increases were reported in Ontario (10.0 points), British Columbia (7.2 points) and Newfoundland (5.7 points).
  • The June 2004 average daily room rate for hotels tracked by PKF rose by 3.2% from June 2003 to $123.10. Provincial average daily room rate increases were experienced in the Yukon (8.4%), Ontario (6.4%) and Alberta – excluding resorts (6.2%).
  • Revenue per available room for PKF’s sample increased by 12.5% to $84.48 in June 2004 compared with $75.07 in June 2003.

  • In May 2004, PKF’s national hotel sample experienced a 6.1 point rise in occupancy from May 2003. The most significant provincial occupancy increases occurred in Ontario (up 9.7 points), New Brunswick (up 6.0 points) and Quebec (up 5.1 points).
  • The May 2004 average daily room rate for hotels tracked by PKF increased by 5.7% from May 2003 to $115.12. The most significant provincial average daily room rate increases were experienced in Ontario (9.0%), Saskatchewan (6.4%) and Yukon (6.1%).
  • Revenue per available room for PKF’s sample increased by 16.9% to $73.12 in May 2004 compared with $62.56 in May 2003.

  • In April 2004, PKF’s national hotel sample experienced a 5.0 point rise in occupancy from April 2003. The most significant provincial occupancy increases occurred in Ontario (up 8.4 points), the Yukon (up 7.5 points) and British Columbia (up 5.3 points)
  • The April 2004 average daily room rate for hotels tracked by PKF increased by 4.3% from April 2003 to $108.52. The most significant provincial average daily room rate increases were experienced in the Yukon (14.3%), Ontario (6.0%) and Saskatchewan (5.0%).
  • Revenue per available room for PKF’s sample increased by 14.2% to $63.44 in April 2004 compared with $55.57 in April 2003.

  • In March 2004, PKF’s national hotel sample experienced a 2.4 point rise in occupancy from March 2003. The most significant provincial occupancy increases occurred in Manitoba (up 6.7 points), Alberta (up 5.3 points) and British Columbia (up 4.4 points)
  • The March 2004 average daily room rate for hotels tracked by PKF decreased by 0.1% from March 2003 to $108.11. The most significant provincial average daily room rate increases were experienced in Saskatchewan (8.7%) and the Yukon (8.6%).
  • Revenue per available room for PKF’s sample increased by 4.2% to $63.76 in March 2004 compared with $61.19 in March 2003.

January / February 2004

  • In January 2004 the PKF national hotel sample achieved a 46.6% occupancy level, a 0.2 percentage point increase from January 2003. The most significant provincial occupancy increases were reported in Newfoundland (up 3.7 points), British Columbia (up 1.5 points) and Manitoba (up 1.3 points). In February 2004, PKF’s national hotel sample reported a 55.7% occupancy level, a decrease of 0.8 percentage points from February 2003.
  • The national average daily room rate for hotels tracked by PKF decreased by 0.4% from January 2003 to $107.22. February 2004 results were 0.6% lower over February 2003 to $109.67.
  • Revenue per available room for PKF’s sample dropped 0.8% from $50.39 in January 2003 to $49.97 in January 2004. February 2004 RevPAR decreased to $61.03, 2.1% lower than February 2003.
