December 2002

  • In December 2002, PKF's national hotel sample achieved a 42.80% occupancy level, a 0.3% increase from December 2001. The most significant provincial occupancy increases were reported in the Yukon (8.4%), British Columbia (2.1%) and Ontario (1.7%).
  • The December 2002 average daily room rate for hotels tracked by PKF was up 2.9% from December 2001 to $107.32. The most significant average daily room rate increases were experienced in the Yukon (12%), British Columbia (5.7%), and Nova Scotia (5.4%).
  • Revenue per available room for PKF's sample increased by 3.2% from $44.51 in December 2001 to $45.95 in December 2002.

November 2002

  • In November 2002, PKF's national hotel sample achieved a 56.5% occupancy level, a 2.2% increase from November 2001. The most significant provincial occupancy increases were reported in Prince Edward Island (7.6%), Ontario (4.8%), and British Columbia (2.0%).
  • The November 2002 average daily room rate for hotels tracked by PKF was up 3.2% from November 2001 to $105.34. The most significant average daily room rate increases were experienced in the Yukon (8.1%), Saskatchewan (7.1%), and Alberta (5.6%).
  • Revenue per available room for PKF's sample increased by 5.5% from $56.36 in November 2001 to $59.47 in November 2002.

  • In October 2002, PKF's national hotel sample achieved a 64.6% occupancy level, a 5.2% increase from October 2001. The most significant provincial occupancy increases were reported in Quebec (10.4%), British Columbia (10.1%), and Prince Edward Island (6.2%).
  • The October 2002 average daily room rate for hotels tracked by PKF was up 2.7% from October 2001 to $112.87. The most significant average daily room rate increases were experienced in Prince Edward Island (12.7%), Newfoundland (10.3%), and Quebec (6.4%).
  • Revenue per available room for PKF's sample increased by 8.1% from $67.49 in October 2001 to $72.94 in October 2002.

  • In September 2002, PKF's national hotel sample achieved a 70.8% occupancy level, a 6.1% increase from September 2001. The most significant provincial occupancy increases were reported in Prince Edward Island (17.7%), Saskatchewan (10.4%), and Ontario (7.0%).
  • The September 2002 average daily room rate for hotels tracked by PKF was up 3.9% from September 2001 to $121.92. The most significant average daily room rate increases were experienced in Prince Edward Island (11.0%), Saskatchewan (8.2%), and Newfoundland (8.0%).
  • Revenue per available room for PKF's sample increased by 10.2% from $78.26 in September 2001 to $86.27 in September 2002.

  • In August 2002, PKF's national hotel sample achieved a 78.1% occupancy level, a 0.6% decrease from August 2001. The most significant provincial occupancy decreases were reported in the Yukon (3.7%), Ontario (3.1%), and Alberta (2.4%).
  • The August 2002 average daily room rate for hotels tracked by PKF was up 0.3% from August 2001 to $127.20. The most significant average daily room rate increases were experienced in all Maritime Provinces, namely Newfoundland (9.6%), New Brunswick (8.1%), and Nova Scotia (7.2%).
  • Revenue per available room for PKF's sample decreased by 0.3% from $99.63 in August 2001 to $99.35 in August 2002.

  • The July 2002 average daily room rate for hotels tracked by PKF was up 1.1% from July 2001 to $127.94. The most significant average daily room rate increases were experienced in Newfoundland (7.4%), New Brunswick (6.0%), and Prince Edward Island (5.4%).
  • Revenue per available room for PKF's sample increased by 0.7% from $93.55 in July 2001 to $94.18 in July 2002.

  • In June 2002, PKF’s national hotel sample achieved a 71.3% occupancy level, a 0.8% decrease from June 2001. The most significant provincial occupancy decreases were reported in Newfoundland (10.3%), Ontario (4.4%), and Prince Edward Island (4.0%).
  • The June 2002 average daily room rate for hotels tracked by PKF was up 1.7% from June 2001 to $126.46. The most significant average daily room rate increases were experienced in Saskatchewan (6.6%), Alberta (6.0%), and Quebec (5.5%).
  • Revenue per available room for PKF’s sample increased by 0.8% from $89.40 in June 2001 to $90.12 in June 2002.

  • In May 2002, PKF’s national hotel sample decreased 1.7% in occupancy from May 2001. The most significant provincial occupancy decreased occurred in Prince Edward Island (9.2%), Ontario (5.7%), and Newfoundland (2.6%).
  • The May 2002 average daily room rate for hotels tracked by PKF was up 0.1% from May 2001 to $113.78. The most significant provincial average daily room rate increases were experienced in Newfoundland (6%) Quebec (5.6%), and Saskatchewan (3.8%).
  • Revenue per available room for PKF’s sample decreased by 1.6% from $74.06 in May 2001 to $72.91 in May 2002.

  • In April 2002, PKF's national hotel sample experienced a 1.2% increase in occupancy from April 2001. The most significant provincial occupancy increases occurred in Prince Edward Island (20.1%), Newfoundland (10.4%) and Manitoba (9.8%).
  • The April 2002 average daily room rate for hotels tracked by PKF was up 0.8% from April 2001 to $107.39. The most significant provincial average daily room rate increases were experienced in Prince Edward Island (10%), Newfoundland (8.8%) and Saskatchewan (3.5%).
  • Revenue per available room for PKF's sample increased by 2.0% to $65.29 in April 2002 compared with $63.98 in April 2001.

  • In March 2002, PKF's national hotel sample experienced a 6.6% decrease in occupancy from March 2001. The most significant provincial occupancy decreases occurred in Prince Edward Island (19.5%), Newfoundland (11.6%) and New Brunswick (7.9%).
  • The March 2002 average daily room rate for hotels tracked by PKF was up 1.0% from March 2001 to $108.29. The most significant provincial average daily room rate increases were experienced in Saskatchewan (4.2%), British Columbia (2.9%) and Quebec (2.3%).
  • Revenue per available room for PKF's sample decreased by 5.7% to $62.72 in March 2002 compared with $66.51 in March 2001.

January / February 2002

  • In January 2002, PKF’s national hotel sample achieved a 46.2% occupancy level, a 4.8% decrease from January 2001. Manitoba (11.8%), and Nova Scotia (7.2%) reported the most significant declines in occupancy levels. February also marked a decline in occupancy levels from 58.5% in February 2001 to 56.7% in February 2002, a 3.0% decrease.
  • The national average daily room rate for hotels tracked by PKF was $105.60 for January 2002, which showed no variance from the same month last year. February 2002 results increased 0.6% to $108.65 from February 2001.
  • Revenues per available room for PKF’s sample decreased by 4.8% in January 2002 to $48.74, compared with $51.22 for January 2001. February results also declined from $63.12 in February 2001 to $61.57 in February 2002, a 2.5% decrease.
