December 2001
- In December 2001, PKF's national hotel sample achieved
a 42.8% occupancy level, a 3.3% decrease from December
2000. Occupancy declines were experienced in most
provinces, with the most significant decreases reported
in Prince Edward Island (9.1%), Ontario (7.1%), and
Nova Scotia (6.8%).
- The national average daily room rate for hotels
tracked by PKF was $104.71 in December 2001, a 1.4%
increase compared with the same month last year.
Quebec (8.3%), New Brunswick (7.9%), and Saskatchewan
(7.2%) reported the most significant room rate increases
for December 2001.
- Revenues per available room for PKF's sample decreased
by 1.9% in December 2001 to $44.81, compared with
$45.69 for December 2000.

November 2001
- In November 2001, PKF's national hotel sample experienced
a decrease of 7.0% in occupancy to 55.5% over November
2000. Provincial occupancy increases occurred in
Prince Edward Island (2.1%), and the Yukon (27.7%).
- The November 2001 average daily room rate for hotels
tracked by PKF was up 1.2% from November 2000 to
$102.51. The most significant provincial average
daily room rate increases were experienced in New
Brunswick (8.4%), Quebec (5.3%) and Prince Edward
Island (5.7%).
- Revenues per available room for PKF's sample experienced
a decrease of 5.9% to $56.91 in November 2001 compared
with November 2000.

October 2001
- In October 2001, PKFs national hotel sample
achieved a 61.5% occupancy level, a 9.1% decrease
from October 2000. Occupancy declines were experienced
in most provinces, with the most significant decreases
reported in Quebec (13.0%), Ontario (10.6%) and British
Columbia (9.9%).
- The national average daily room rate for hotels
tracked by PKF was $110.18 in October 2001, a 0.3%
increase compared with the same month last year.
Nova Scotia (8.7%) and Saskatchewan (3.6%) reported
the most significant room rate increases for October
2001.
- Revenues per available room for PKFs sample
decreased by 8.9% in October 2001 to $67.79, compared
with $74.39 for October 2000.

September 2001
- Substantial occupancy declines in most markets
tracked by PKF were reported for September 2001 following
the horrific terrorist attacks on the US on September
11, 2001.
- In September 2001, PKF's national hotel sample
achieved a 67.1% occupancy level, a 14.9% decrease
from September 2000. Occupancy declines were experienced
in most provinces, with the most significant decreases
reported in Prince Edward Island (-19.8%), Ontario
(-18.3%) and Quebec (-16.5%).
- The national average daily room rate for hotels
tracked by PKF was $117.31 in September 2001, a 2.3%
drop compared with the same month last year. However,
Newfoundland (7.4%), Nova Scotia (4.8%) and New Brunswick
(4.6%) reported rate increases for September 2001.
- Revenues per available room for PKF's sample decreased
by 16.8% in September 2001 to $78.72, compared with
$94.62 for September 2000.

August 2001
- In August 2001, PKF's national hotel sample achieved
a 79.2% occupancy level, a 0.9% decrease from August
2000. Occupancy decreases were experienced in most
provinces however, increases in occupancy were experienced
in Alberta (7.3%) and British Columbia (2.8%). The
increase in occupancy in Alberta is due in most part
to the 8th IAAF World Championship in Athletics which
took place in Edmonton from August 3 to August 12,
2001.
- The national average daily room rate for hotels
tracked by PKF was $127.97 in August 2001, a 4.3%
increase compared with the same month last year.
Alberta (13.3%), Saskatchewan (6.9%) and Quebec (6.8%)
reported the greatest rate increases for August 2001.
- Revenues per available room for PKF's sample increased
by 3.3% in August 2001 to $101.31, compared with
August 2000.

July 2001
- In July 2001, PKF's national hotel sample achieved
a 74.4% occupancy level, a 2.8% decrease from July
2000. Provincial occupancy increases were experienced
in Alberta (2.2%), Newfoundland (1.6%) and British
Columbia and Manitoba (1.0%).
- The national average
daily room rate for hotels tracked by PKF was $127.58
in July 2001, a 3.5% increase compared with the
same month last year. Newfoundland (7.3%), Quebec
(6.3%) and Alberta (4.9%) reported the greatest rate
increases for July 2001.
- Revenues per available room
for PKF's sample increased by 0.7% in July 2001
to $94.94, compared with July 2000.

- In June 2001, PKF's national hotel sample achieved
a 72.6% occupancy level, a 3.0% decrease from June
2000. The most significant provincial occupancy increase
was experienced in Newfoundland (7.2%).
- The national average daily room rate for hotels
tracked by PKF was $124.65 in June 2001, a 4.1% increase
compared with the same month last year. Quebec (10.1%)
and Nova Scotia (7.4%) reported the greatest rate
increases for June 2001.
- Revenues per available room for PKF's sample increased
by 1.0% in June 2001 to $90.51, compared with June
2000.

May 2001
- In May 2001, PKF's national hotel sample experienced
a decrease of 3.7% in occupancy to 65.8% over May
2000. Provincial occupancy increases occurred in
Manitoba (1.9%), Newfoundland (1.8) and Alberta (1.2%).
- The May 2001 average daily room rate for hotels
tracked by PKF was up 3.3% from May 2000 to $114.51.
The most significant provincial average daily room
rate increases were experienced in Quebec (7.2%),
New Brunswick (6.5%) and Newfoundland (6.2%).
- Revenue per available room for PKF's sample experienced
a small decrease of 0.4% to $75.36 in May 2001 compared
with May 2000.

April 2001
- In April 2001, PKF's national hotel sample experienced
a small decrease of 0.6% in occupancy to 60.6% over
April 2000. The most significant provincial occupancy
increases occurred in Yukon (8.5%), Alberta (4.5%)
and Nova Scotia (4.3%).
- The April 2001 average daily room rate for hotels
tracked by PKF was up 4.9% from April 2000 to $106.60.
The most significant provincial average daily room
rate increases were experienced in Quebec (12.9%),
Newfoundland (7.6%) and New Brunswick (6.5%).
- Revenue per available room for PKF's sample increased
by 4.3% to $64.64 in April 2001 compared with April
2000.

March 2001
- In March 2001, PKF’s national hotel sample
experienced a 1.8% increase in occupancy to 62.3%
over March 2000. The most significant provincial
occupancy increases occurred in Prince Edward Island
(8.2%), Quebec (4.7%) and Alberta (4.3%).
- The March 2001 average daily room rate for hotels
tracked by PKF was up 5.8% from March 2000 to $107.80.
The most significant provincial average daily room
rate increases were experienced in Quebec (8.9%),
New Brunswick (7.7%) and Newfoundland (7.3).
- Revenue per available room for PKF’s sample
increased by 7.7% to $67.15 in March 2001 compared
with March 2000.

January / February
2001
- Nationally, hotels tracked by PKF experienced a
3.8% increase in occupancy in January 2001 over January
2000. However, January 2000 occupancies were down
by 4.5% over the same month in 1999 due, in part,
to travellers opting not to travel because of potential
Y2K problems. Although February 2001 occupancies
decreased by 0.2%, the year-to-date February 2001
occupancies were up 1.4% to 53.4% and the year-to-date
REVPAR is still ahead by a healthy 7.1% to $57.27
over the same period in February 2000.
- In January 2001, the national average daily room
rate for hotels tracked by PKF was up 5.9% from January
2000 to $106.10. The February 2001 results increased
by 5.6% to $108.54 over February 2000.
- Revenue per available room for PKF’s sample
increased by 9.9% in January 2001 to $51.84, while
February 2001 experienced an increase of 5.5% to
$63.44 compared with February 2000.
