December 2000

  • In December 2000, PKF’s national hotel sample experienced a 2.3% increase in occupancy to 44.4% over the same month in 1999. The most significant provincial occupancy increases occurred in British Columbia (4.5%), Quebec (4.5%) and Saskatchewan (3.9%).
  • The December 2000 national average daily room rate for hotels tracked by PKF was up 3.5% from December 1999 to $104.28. The most significant provincial average daily room rate increases were experienced in Ontario (6.4%), British Columbia (4.5%) and Saskatchewan (4.0%).
  • Revenue per available room for PKF’s sample increased by 5.9% in December 2000 to $46.33 compared with December 1999.

November 2000

  • In November 2000, PKF’s national hotel sample experienced a 0.2% decrease in occupancy to 59.9% over the same month in 1999. The most significant provincial occupancy increases occurred in Alberta (6.9%) and British Columbia (3.5%).
  • The November 2000 national average daily room rate for hotels tracked by PKF was up 5.8% from November 1999 to $101.85. The most significant provincial average daily room rate increases were experienced in Manitoba (10.4%), Quebec (8.9%) and New Brunswick (7.0%).
  • Revenue per available room for PKF’s sample increased by 5.7% in November 2000 to $61.03 compared with November 1999.

October 2000

  • In October 2000, PKF’s national hotel sample experienced a 0.9% decrease in occupancy to 67.7% over the same month in 1999. The most significant provincial occupancy increases occurred in Alberta (4.5%), Quebec (3.7%) and British Columbia (2.4%).
  • The October 2000 national average daily room rate for hotels tracked by PKF was up 6.6% from October 1999 to $110.20. The most significant provincial average daily room rate increases were experienced in Manitoba (11.0%), Quebec (10.6%) and New Brunswick (9.1%).
  • Revenue per available room for PKF’s sample increased by 5.7% in October 2000 to $74.63 compared with October 1999.

  • In September 2000, PKF’s national hotel sample experienced a 0.3% increase in occupancy to 78.9% over the same month in 1999. The most significant provincial occupancy increases occurred in Manitoba (5.6%) and Alberta (4.6%).
  • The September 2000 national average daily room rate for hotels tracked by PKF was up 6.8% from September 1999 to $120.41. The most significant provincial average daily room rate increases were experienced in Manitoba (13.8%), Quebec (10.7%) and Ontario (8.9%).
  • Revenue per available room for PKF’s sample increased by 7.2% in September 2000 to $95.00 compared with September 1999.

August 2000

  • In August 2000, PKF’s national hotel sample achieved a 79.9% occupancy level, a 0.8% decrease from August 1999. The most significant provincial occupancy increases were experienced in Newfoundland (4.8%) and the Yukon (2.4%).
  • The national average daily room rate for hotels tracked by PKF was $122.00 in August 2000, a 4.1% increase compared with the same month last year. The Yukon (9.9%), Quebec (8.7%) and Prince Edward Island (7.0%) reported the greatest rate increases for August 2000.
  • Revenues per available room for PKF’s sample increased by 3.2% in August 2000 to $97.50, compared with August 1999.

July 2000

  • In July 2000, PKF’s national hotel sample achieved a 76.8% occupancy level, a 3.0% decrease from July 1999. Occupancy decreases were experienced in all provinces with the exception of Alberta, which reported a 0.7% occupancy increase over July 1999.
  • The national average daily room rate for hotels tracked by PKF was $124.26 in July 2000, a 5.6% increase compared with the same month last year. Nova Scotia (13.0%) and Quebec (10.2%) reported the greatest rate increases for July 2000. Winnipeg, Manitoba experienced significant occupancy and average daily room rate decreases over July 1999, due in part to the XIII Pan Am Games which took place in Winnipeg during the week of July 24 – August 8 last year.
  • Revenues per available room for PKF’s sample increased by 2.4% in July 2000 to $95.38, compared with July 1999.

  • In June 2000, PKF’s national hotel sample achieved a 75.3% occupancy level, a 0.6% increase from June 1999. The most significant provincial occupancy increases were experienced in Quebec (7.3%) and Alberta (4.1%).
  • The national average daily room rate for hotels tracked by PKF was $121.09 in June 2000, a 7.5% increase compared with the same month last year. Quebec (13.0%), Alberta (10.2%) and Ontario (9.4%) reported the greatest rate increases for June 2000.
  • Revenues per available room for PKF’s sample increased by 8.2% in June 2000 to $91.16, compared with June 1999.

  • In May 2000, PKF's national hotel sample achieved a 68.7% occupancy level, a 1.0% increase from May 1999. The most significant provincial occupancy increases were experienced in the Yukon (10.6%), Quebec (7.2%) and Alberta (4.5%).
  • The national average daily room rate for hotels tracked by PKF was $111.49 in May 2000, a 5.8% increase compared with the same month last year. The Yukon (11.0%), Nova Scotia (10.3%) and Quebec (9.0%) reported the greatest rate increases for May 2000.
  • Revenues per available room for PKF's sample increased by 6.9% in May 2000 to $76.62, compared with May 1999.

April 2000

  • In April 2000, PKF's national hotel sample achieved a 61.4% occupancy level, a 3.5% decrease from April 1999. The most significant provincial occupancy decreases were experienced in Newfoundland and Manitoba (8.9%), Saskatchewan (8.6%) and Nova Scotia (8.2%) whilst the Yukon experienced an increase of 14.4% in occupancy.
  • The national average daily room rate for hotels tracked by PKF was $102.34 in April 2000, a 5.3% increase compared with the same month last year. The Yukon (13.5%), Prince Edward Island (9.3%) and British Columbia (7.9%) reported the greatest rate increases for April 2000.
  • Revenues per available room for PKF's sample increased by 1.7% in April 2000 to $62.82, relative to April 1999.

March 2000

  • In March 2000, PKF's national hotel sample achieved a 61.7% occupancy level, a 1.6% decrease from March 1999. The Yukon experienced a 56.7% increase in occupancy over March 1999. This significant increase was due to the XVI Arctic Winter Games which took place in Whitehorse from March 5 to 11, 2000.
  • The national average daily room rate for hotels tracked by PKF was $102.91 in March 2000, a 5.2% increase compared with the same month last year.
  • Revenues per available room for PKF's sample increased by 3.6% from March 1999 to $63.47.

January/ February 2000

  • In January 2000, PKF's national sample achieved a 47.5% occupancy level, a 4.5% decrease from January 1999. The February 2000 national occupancy results for hotels tracked by PKF showed a decrease of 3.1% over the previous year at 59.2% compared wifth 61.1% in February 1999.
  • In January 2000, PKF's national average daily room rate increased by 5.3% to $101.24, relative to January 1999, with February 2000 results also up by 5.4% to $103.40.
  • In January 2000, the revenue per available room for PKF's sample was up 0.6% to $48.04 while February 2000 experienced a 2.2% increase over the previous year to $61.17.
