2000 trends edition expands to include more markets

Since launching our first Trends in the Canadian Hotel Industry - National Market Report (Trends) in 1996, PKF's sample of contributing hotels has grown from 90,000 rooms to 148,000 rooms in 2000 - making this database the most complete and concise information on the Canadian hotel industry. With a national inventory of approximately 344,000 rooms, Trends monitors occupancy percentage, average daily room rate (ADR) and revenue per available room (REVPAR) for over 43% of Canada's supply.

Due to the growing number of Trends contributors, we are pleased to present our millennium edition with more in-depth market information. Specifically, the report offers further breakdowns of Greater Montreal, Ottawa and Edmonton markets to include the submarkets of:

  • Greater Montreal
  • Downtown Montreal
  • Montreal Airport/ Laval
  • Ottawa
  • Downtown Ottawa
  • Ottawa West
  • Ottawa East
  • Edmonton
  • Downtown Edmonton
  • Edmonton South
  • Edmonton West

In Ontario, we have realigned the markets into seven regions, based on Census Divisions, with a further 20 markets reported. The table on the back page identifies the geographic regions utilized for reporting purposes in Ontario.

With these additions, Trends now offers market information on 75 markets, as well as provincial, territorial and national results each month. We have also adjusted the price level categories to be reflective of ADR achieved by the industry in 1999, as follows:

  • budget: annual ADR's under $70
  • mid-price: annual ADR's of $70 to $110
  • upscale: annual ADR's over $110
